In 2014 Rigging Team were approached with a unique challenge. The Queen’s Baton was coming to London and as part of the celebration the organisers planned to have medal-winning gymnast Louis Smith perform on the Millennium Bridge over the Thames.
Following a detailed survey of the pedestrian bridge, we developed a solution to enable a gymnastic high bar to be installed over the middle of the river.
Custom base plates and mounting brackets were fabricated whilst our Broadweigh wind and load monitoring equipment kept an eye on the forces being imposed on the bridge structure.
We even had one of our riggers demonstrate to Louis how it should be done…
